Now living in
My house was enormous. It had two bedrooms, a kitchen… it was an area of 100 square
[How long did you live there for?] 23 years. Me, my daughter, my son in law and my
People from City Hall came there to talk to us, do the registration. I didn’t want to leave, but
they said I was in the designated area and I would have to negotiate. It was horrible.
[What did you feel?]
Ah, I don’t even know how to describe it to you. I cried a lot, because 23 years… it was a
whole life there.
[Did you get any compensation?]
I got some compensation which wasn’t enough to buy a house, so I went back to Vila
Autodromo and I bought a room, a kitchenette, in Nelson Piquet.
[Why are you staying here, in this container?]
Because I want to move into the new homes being built here.
[What do you remember about the old place?]
Ah, I lived through many happy moments there with my family. My garden, my chickens. It
was a house made out of a lot of sacrifices, I made that house to live in. I missed it. When I
