My name is Rita de Cassias, I’m 40, I am what they call a “carioca da gema.” I lived there in Metro for 27 years. I lived in a very small house, it wasn’t well-built. The roof had a lot of fissures in it, and when it rained, and it used to rain a lot, it started to rot, you used to get a lot of rat infestations. When Brazil won the right to host the Olympics, which was for this year, 2016, City Hall launched an Olympic project, but I don’t know who it was for. I don’t know why, but this project didn’t go forward. But City Hall came and registered everyone, and marked all the houses. Each house number was our number there in City Hall. Eight months later, people started to move. It was in 2010. The first option was to go to Cosmos, which is after Campo Grande. A lot of people didn’t want to go, because they had a life here – they had jobs, schools – a life, you know, people who had lived here for 30 years, and didn’t want to drop everything, as Cosmos is a bit far away. But a lot of people decided to go there. The bedrooms there were 5m squared, but everything had been built and was ready, people were enchanted with what they saw, so off they went, but I decided to stay here.
For me, thank God, it worked out. I’ve got a bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen, and I did some DIY because the way they delivered it is different to how it is now. I put down a new floor, and fixed the kitchen, and I’m going to do some more work on it yet. I’m happy, thank God. There are people who complain, because some of them had bigger houses, with more privacy, that had a terrace. Because here, they are all based on the same model. So there are people who complain a bit, but not me, not even a bit. I don’t miss it there, not even a bit.
