"We got a good deal"

Coming from

Now living in

Patricia da Silva Santos, 27, student

Where I used to live, I’m going to tell you, it wasn’t very good because we had to go and carry water to be able to take a shower or wash the dishes.

[What was your house like in Metro?]

It had a bedroom, a living room, kitchen and bathroom. I left it when I was 25, 26 years old. City Hall came to register us, and we came to live here. They brought us here to see the house before we moved. I liked it, because I saw a huge difference between the house here and the one we lived in there. For me, it was a dream. We took one and did well out of it. Here, everything is nearby too. It takes me 20-30 minutes to get to school, on foot. It took us a while to adapt – my brother and my niece too. There was no space to play there, but they can play as much as they like here.

[So do you miss it there?]

Not a lot!
